About Us

Our Story

Autonomous Animal Action (AAA) was born from a group of friends who, after leaving a large animal rights organisation, wanted to create something different; a collective that values community over hierarchy. Having experienced firsthand how traditional structures can silence marginalised voices and create barriers to grassroots organising, we knew we needed to build something that felt inclusive and empowering. AAA is a space for anyone committed to decolonising activism and fighting for a shared, just future. We aim to support those who’ve been tokenised, mistreated, or pushed out of spaces that claim to champion liberation but fail to live up to their promises.

Collective power begins with collective care

As marginalised individuals, we understand the importance of reimagining activism in ways that are truly inclusive and transformative. We believe that the phrase “No one is free until we are all free” encompasses not just human liberation but the freedom of all beings, human and non-human alike.

We’re not interested in fighting for a seat at the table that’s already broken, we want to dismantle the table and refashion it into something we can all participate in! It’s time to try something different: to rethink the language we use, the ways we organise, and the systems we uphold. We believe that all the issues we care about are interconnected, and we’re dedicated to finding new ways to relate to them. By nurturing collective power through shared care and worldmaking, we’re working toward a world where dignity and freedom are available to all beings

Our vision

A world where multispecies emancipation and radical love unite all beings in freedom, connection, justice, and autonomy.

Our mission

We nurture language, actions, and solidarity to build and grow a compassionate, decolonised world. Organising autonomously and non-hierarchically, we practise collective power and activism with kindred movements, uncompromising in our commitment to collective coexistence with all life.

Our core beliefs

We are rooted in multispecies emancipation: We reject the human-animal divide and other colonial legacies. We aim to organise autonomously as allies in the global struggle fight for emancipation – for humans and our ‘beyond human’ relatives; all humans and other animals.

We aim to create emancipatory spaces: Our spaces are brave, welcoming and grounded in care and respect. This helps build our capacity to embrace and sit with discomfort for both personal and collective growth, bringing us closer to emancipation.

We nurture creative connections: Joy, hope, & creative connection is fuel for sustaining our movement. We will use our creativity to welcome others to join us in working towards freedom.

Our values

Expansive: We are a diverse group with a broad vision that goes beyond single-issue, vegan-centric action.

Evolving: We are against all types of discrimination. We invite honest feedback that contributes to our personal and communal growth.

Welcoming: We welcome people with open hearts, brave but tactful speech, and respect. We embrace everyone’s “becoming” over perfectionism — we are all learning.

Caring: We weave care, compassion, empathy, solidarity, and healing into all our actions.

Inclusive: We create safe and empowering spaces for those marginalised by the mainstream animal rights movement.

Aware of privilege: We acknowledge that everyone has some form of privilege, including colonial roots. We are committed to learning about all forms of decolonisation and how we are shaped by the systems we live in.
